Church's
'Stage Craft' Spring 2025 Ad Campaign

May 2025
For its Spring 2025 campaign, titled Stage Craft, Church's leans into a masterclass of visual storytelling that bridges the gap between classic heritage and contemporary editorial minimalism. The project, brought to life through the creative direction of David James and the lens of photographer Phil Poynter, features actor Theo James as the central figure. By utilizing a stark, monochromatic palette and sophisticated chiaroscuro lighting, the campaign transforms the studio environment into a theatrical space that mirrors the meticulous artistry of traditional shoemaking. Each frame captures the interplay of light and shadow, highlighting the polished finish of the brand's iconic brogues and penny loafers through high-contrast studio strobe techniques. The aesthetic is inherently cinematic, utilizing props like architectural blocks and abstract landscape prints to ground the subject in a clean, intellectual atmosphere. Stylist Tom Guinness elevates the narrative, pairing tailored, textured wool suits with crisp, refined accessories to ensure the footwear remains the focal point of every composition. The resulting imagery is a precise exercise in portraiture, stripping away the superfluous to celebrate the sharp lines and structured form of Church's collection. By balancing the rigid, clean geometry of the set with the human fluidity of the subject, the campaign succeeds as both a timeless commercial endeavor and a compelling fashion statement for the modern era.
