American Vogue: Birdwatching in Maine
Nov 2026
For American Vogue, photographer Sebastian Faena explores the Maine coastline in the editorial project Birdwatching in Maine. Under the creative direction of Raúl Martinez, the series blends luxury fashion with an authentic, documentary-inspired aesthetic set against the rugged backdrop of coastal boathouses, fishing vessels, and misty meadows. Fashion editor Max Ortega curates a wardrobe of layered seasonal apparel, featuring structured outerwear and heavily embellished faux-fur headwear that contrasts with the landscape's raw textures. The editorial utilizes analogue film techniques and natural light to capture an atmospheric, grainy look across both color and black-and-white photography. Hair styling by Dre Demry Sanders and makeup by Homa Safar complete the character-driven narrative. The project features models Ana Beatriz Cortes, Betsy Gaghan, and Sunday Rose, who appear throughout the series navigating the rural environment. Visual direction by Paige Viti and casting by Ignacio Murillo support the editorial narrative, which reflects a juxtaposition of high-fashion tailoring and the quiet, fog-laden outdoors.
