August Barron’s latest venture, ALL-IN N°9, is a masterclass in editorial portraiture that subverts the traditional expectations of hair styling through a lens of tactile experimentation. Collaborating with photographer Cristina Stolhe and hair stylist Holli Smith, the project explores the architecture of the human form by turning the focus away from the face and toward the intricate narratives held within the nape of the neck and the silhouette of a hairstyle. Utilizing a mix of sharp natural light and calculated studio strobe, the series captures a diverse array of textures, from tight spiral ringlets and bleached-tip spikes to playful braided ribbons and unexpected sculptural embellishments. The project leans into editorial minimalism, allowing the tension between the organic subject matter and synthetic additions—such as medical cervical braces, pearl strands, and vibrant clip-in extensions—to dictate the visual rhythm of each shot. By stripping away the distraction of direct facial expression, the work forces a deeper engagement with the craft of grooming as a medium for artistic expression. With casting direction by Julia Lange, the collection feels both intimate and industrial, creating a compelling dialogue between modern fashion aesthetics and the raw, quiet vulnerability of its subjects. Every frame reflects a deliberate balance of color and structure, grounding complex styling techniques in a clean, contemporary visual language that defines the current creative landscape.
