Unreal Times is a high-concept fashion editorial series for Altered States Magazine, defined by its rigorous exploration of sculptural forms and architectural textiles. Photographer Scarlett Casciello frames model Noor Elliott in a series of avant-garde looks, where the interaction between human silhouette and abstract props creates a sense of surreal, geometric tension. The project leans into a mix of high-contrast monochrome studio work and vibrant, painterly color palettes, utilizing sharp directional lighting to accentuate the drape and volume of the garments. Featuring intricate hair installations, graphic makeup, and precision manicuring, the visuals emphasize a tactile approach to studio portraiture. With styling by Annie Hertikova and casting direction by George Raymond Stead, the editorial establishes a rhythmic visual language through the use of floating spheres, motion blur, and layered textures. The series balances technical control—evident in its use of analogue-inflected grain and high-speed lighting—with an experimental, otherworldly sensibility.
