Bio
Jamie Nelson is an acclaimed photographer and director whose work has graced the pages of prestigious publications such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Elle, and Vanity Fair across eight countries. With a distinctive aesthetic that transcends borders, Nelson has established herself as a leading figure in the global fashion and beauty industry. Originally hailing from Texas and Denver, Nelson discovered her passion for photography in high school, a revelation that came after realizing that drawing was not her forte. This newfound artistic direction led her to Brooks Institute, where she approached each assignment with the fervor of a seasoned professional. Her dedication paid off when her work was published even before she graduated, propelling her to New York to pursue her dreams. "Ironically, I had to sell my camera to get there, so I was a photographer without a camera for a while," she recalls. Yet, this setback only fueled her determination. "After seeing my first editorial published, there was no stopping me. The exhilaration of sharing your vision with the world is unparalleled." Nelson’s versatility in both film and digital photography has made her a sought-after talent for renowned beauty clients, including Dior, Shiseido, and Huda Beauty, as well as editorial giants like Playboy, Vogue Portugal, and Cosmopolitan. She thrives on the "experimentation and magic" inherent in photography, skillfully navigating the nuances of a 4x5 camera while embracing the immediacy and flexibility of digital formats. A proponent of nostalgia, she also keeps disposable cameras in her fridge, viewing them as miniature time capsules for personal projects. With a career that takes her from the beaches of the Dominican Republic to the bustling streets of New York, Nelson finds solace in her roots. Whether she’s unwinding on the shores of Texas with her mother or reconnecting with family in the serene landscapes of rural Texas, she cherishes these moments. "I think it keeps me sane," she reflects. A hallmark of Nelson's unique aesthetic is her iconic pink, mid-century Old Hollywood house, complete with a matching pink Mustang convertible. Nestled in Northridge, CA, this vibrant oasis features retro furnishings, shag-lined walls, and a generously-sized pool, making it a coveted location for celebrity shoots and commercial projects alike. When she’s not behind the camera or managing her creative haven, Nelson stays busy with her eclectic interests, which include a love for cats, basketball, vintage shopping, and even rollerblading. Her passion for life and art shines through in every captivating frame she captures.
