Collier Schorr
Bio
Collier Schorr (born 1963, New York) is a distinguished American artist and fashion photographer whose evocative adolescent portraits seamlessly blend photographic realism with imaginative elements of fiction and youthful fantasy. Renowned for her unique perspective, Schorr captivates audiences by exploring the intricate landscapes of identity, gender, history, nationality, and the lasting impact of war. Raised in Queens, New York, Schorr pursued her passion for storytelling by studying journalism at the School of Visual Arts. In the 1980s and 1990s, she also made her mark as an art critic, lending her voice to the contemporary art discourse of the time. Her photography gained significant recognition, culminating in her participation in the prestigious 2002 Whitney Biennial and the 2003 International Center for Photography Triennial. In 2008, she was honored with the Berlin Prize from the American Academy in Berlin, a testament to her influential role in the art world. Schorr is represented by Stuart Shave/Modern Art in London and 303 Gallery in New York, where her work continues to inspire and provoke thought. Currently residing in Brooklyn, she finds solace in the summers spent with family in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Southern Germany.
