Christopher Anderson
Bio
Christopher Anderson (b. 1970; joined Magnum Photos in 2005) is a distinguished Canadian photographer whose formative years were spent in the evocative landscapes of West Texas. His career took a dramatic turn in 2000 while on assignment for The New York Times Magazine, when he embarked on a perilous journey aboard a small wooden boat with 44 Haitians seeking refuge in America. The boat tragically sank in the Caribbean, and the haunting images he captured from this harrowing experience earned him the prestigious Robert Capa Gold Medal. This pivotal moment marked the beginning of a decade-long tenure as a contract photographer for both Newsweek Magazine and National Geographic Magazine. In 2011, Anderson made history by becoming New York Magazine’s inaugural Photographer in Residence, a role that further solidified his reputation in the industry. Today, he continues to contribute to The New York Times Magazine, while also collaborating with esteemed commercial clients including Hermès, Maxmara, Theory, Audemars Piguet, Canada Goose, Golden Goose, Nike, Apple, IBM, Audi, Hennessy, and JP Morgan. An accomplished author, Anderson has published six monographs that reflect his unique vision and storytelling prowess. His notable works include: - *COP* (Stanley/Barker, 2019) - *Approximate Joy* (Stanley/Barker, 2018) - *Stump* (Editorial RM, Mexico City, 2014) - *Son* (Kehrer Verlag, Heidelberg, 2013) - *Capitolio* (Editorial RM, Mexico City, 2009) - *Nonfiction* (De.MO, Millbrook, 2003) Currently, Anderson divides his time between the vibrant cities of New York and Paris, continuously exploring the intersection of documentary and art through his lens.
