Zen Life

Apr 2026
Vogue Philippines captures a masterclass in stillness and structural elegance with Zen Life, an editorial project that transcends traditional fashion photography to explore the interplay between human form and architectural silence. Creative director and stylist Alexandre Dornellas, alongside editor-in-chief Bea Valdes, curate a visual narrative that leans into the minimalist geometry of traditional Japanese interiors and the quiet, autumnal splendor of secluded gardens. Through the lens of photographer Als Sunxiaoran, the series features model Yihui Wang, whose presence acts as a deliberate, grounding force amidst voluminous, avant-garde silhouettes and intricate botanical textiles. The aesthetic is defined by a serene, contemplative atmosphere, where soft natural light highlights the textural tension between rigid tatami mats, shoji screens, and the fluid movement of sculptural gowns. Casting director Melissa Scott ensures the portraiture remains sharp and emotive, grounding the high-concept editorial work in a palpable sense of human connection. By utilizing a fine art approach and nuanced live-action technique, the project bridges the gap between lifestyle storytelling and high-fashion portraiture. Whether captured in the intimacy of a wooden interior or via an expansive drone shot of a lonely urban street, Zen Life serves as a sophisticated meditation on harmony, balance, and the enduring power of deliberate, minimalist composition in contemporary media.
