The New Excess for AboveBeyond Magazine

Jun 2026
In The New Excess for AboveBeyond Magazine, the creative team leans into a masterclass of refined intensity, offering a high-fashion exploration of beauty that commands attention through sheer precision. This editorial project, which traverses the realms of cosmetics and portraiture, thrives on the tension between extreme macro detail and polished minimalism. With photographer Irina Shestakova behind the lens, the imagery utilizes sharp studio strobe lighting to emphasize the architectural quality of the face, transforming features into landscapes of texture and color. Makeup artist Hugo Villard provides the conceptual backbone of the series, employing bold graphic eyeliner, metallic eyeshadows, and vibrant matte lips that serve as striking focal points against stark, dark backgrounds. The aesthetic is punctuated by the intentional inclusion of bleached eyebrows and slicked-back hair, styled with architectural rigor by Yumiko Hikage. Throughout the series, model Bo Exters embodies an intense, gaze-driven presence that bridges the gap between raw human detail and high-concept artistry. By combining macro focus with a disciplined, high-contrast palette, the collection captures a modern vision of the beauty industry that feels both timeless and aggressively current. The project reads as a deliberate study in creative color blocking, where every clumping lash and pigment-rich lip shade reinforces a sense of excess tempered by meticulous, clean, and highly controlled artistic execution.
