In the striking series Leica Leitzphone Marrakesch hautnah, photographer Arale Reartes turns a keen, documentary eye toward the winding alleyways and sun-drenched architecture of Marrakesh. Moving beyond simple reportage, the collection functions as an evocative lifestyle and portrait study that leans into the precision and tonal range of the Leica mobile optics. Reartes masterfully employs natural light to bridge the gap between architectural photography and intimate street scenes, often utilizing low-key chiaroscuro techniques to heighten the drama within shadowed doorways and rugged, terracotta-toned walls. The imagery thrives on a deliberate interplay of textures, contrasting the fluidity of traditional djellabas and draped fabrics against the weathered grit of plaster and the structural weight of studded wooden portals.
