Tush Magazine
Zerkalo

Aug 2026
In the latest editorial campaign for Tush Magazine, Zerkalo, photographer Jose Carvajal pushes the boundaries of cosmetic portraiture through a series of striking, extreme macro studies. This project leans into the intersection of raw, human vulnerability and high-concept artistry, prioritizing the visceral texture of skin over traditional notions of polished beauty. Working alongside movement director Weronika Kaminska, the imagery strips away the context of the face, favoring intense focus on freckles, pores, and the delicate architecture of the eye and lips. By utilizing cinematic lighting and high-contrast beauty light, the visuals emphasize the interplay between natural characteristics and experimental pigment. The work channels a sophisticated, editorial minimalism, where vibrant cyan blue graphic liner, heavy iridescent glitter, and dense, moody white pigments become sculptural elements rather than mere makeup. Each frame serves as an artistic exploration of surface, contrasting the organic warmth of skin with the synthetic allure of reflective metallic gloss. The resulting series reads as both an atmospheric narrative and a technical masterclass in macro photography, where the deliberate use of light creates a dialogue between the tactile reality of the model and the bold, otherworldly manifestations of color. This series captures a uniquely raw aesthetic that feels both hauntingly intimate and undeniably avant-garde, solidifying its place within the modern beauty landscape.
