Artefacts

In the curated series Artefacts, photographers Angèle Moraiz and Paul Mougeot collaborate to elevate the fragrance and beauty landscape through a masterclass in product photography. By treating each vessel as a sculptural centerpiece, the project shifts the focus from mere packaging to an exploration of form, texture, and materiality. The visual narrative leans into editorial minimalism, utilizing precise studio strobe lighting to emphasize the juxtaposition between industrial design and natural elements. Working closely with set designer César Sebastien, the team crafts an evocative environment where the tactile grain of weathered stone and dark wood meets the sleek, reflective surfaces of luxury glass. From the bird-adorned ceramic of Dries Van Noten to the organic, sculptural cap of a Nasomatto bottle, each frame is meticulously composed to invite a deep appreciation for craft. The series expertly employs low-key and chiaroscuro techniques, casting deep shadows that give the imagery a moody, fine art sensibility while maintaining the commercial clarity required for high-end beauty branding. By stripping away the surrounding noise, Moraiz and Mougeot transform these everyday commodities into profound objects of desire, turning the commercial act of product display into an immersive study of light and structure. The result is a sophisticated body of work that highlights the delicate balance of contrast and symmetry, solidifying the artistic potential inherent in contemporary fragrance design.
