The Gentlewoman
How The Light Gets In

Apr 2026
In How The Light Gets In, The Gentlewoman masterfully explores the intersection of architectural structure and intimate portraiture, presenting an editorial fashion narrative that feels both timeless and aggressively modern. Photographer Marius Uhlig anchors this series with a rigorous, minimalist aesthetic, utilizing natural light to elevate the tactile quality of high-fashion textiles. Throughout the collection, Uhlig captures the tension between the fluid, sheer movement of lace and the rigid geometry of exposed seams and structured knits. The imagery leans into an avant-garde sensibility, punctuated by the precise, painterly white graphic eyeliner applied by makeup artist Petros Petrohilos, which serves as a stark, deliberate counterpoint to the models' natural, unvarnished skin texture. Hair stylist Pål Berdahl complements this clean visual language with slicked-back, architectural styles that emphasize the subjects' facial contours and the sculptural silhouettes of the garments. With casting directed by Simone Schofer, the project features model Beauïse Genç, whose steady, composed gaze draws the viewer into a quiet dialogue with the clothing. By stripping away extraneous artifice and settling into a consistent, off-white studio palette, the work emphasizes fashion craftsmanship—from shimmering sequins to delicate floral lace—as an extension of the human form. This series successfully refines the editorial portrait format, transforming wearable luxury into a study of light, texture, and refined construction.
