The Atlantic
Brand Identity

Sep 2026
The Atlantic has unveiled a comprehensive brand identity system for The Atlantic Festival, rooted in the publication's deep editorial heritage. The project utilizes a sophisticated graphic language that bridges historical and modern contexts, drawing heavily from the brand's extensive archive to inform its visual direction. Design work by The Atlantic centers on archival serif typography, intricate woodcut engravings, and classical maritime iconography. These traditional elements are reinterpreted through a contemporary lens, featuring a bold, vibrant color palette that includes olive-chartreuse, cream, and high-contrast orange. The identity system encompasses both static print collateral and dynamic motion graphics, with motion work by Mallandrich bringing the festival's event titles and key details to life. Techniques such as etching and intaglio-inspired line work are applied across the system, appearing on everything from promotional banners and event tickets to digital social media templates. The result is a cohesive brand identity that leverages retro-inspired design motifs to maintain a legacy aesthetic while fulfilling the functional requirements of a modern, multi-platform media event.
