Everyday Extravagance

Apr 2026
In the striking series Everyday Extravagance, SCMP Style magazine masterfully subverts the traditional expectations of luxury fashion houses by bridging the gap between high-end jewelry and the mundane rituals of contemporary life. Shot through the lens of photographer Alexandra Utzmann, this editorial project leans into a minimalist aesthetic that places vibrant, high-fashion garments and intricate fine jewelry against a stark, high-key studio backdrop. The result is a crisp, modern visual language where everyday accessories like paper coffee cups, wired headphones, and vintage music players become intentional counterpoints to the opulent textures of sapphire-encrusted necklaces and statement diamond rings. With deliberate styling by fashion editor Joanne M. Kennedy, the project presents a curated tension between the functional and the decorative, inviting viewers to find luxury in the routine. Featuring models Aluel Makuach, Haizhu Gu, and Lesia Havrylets, the portraiture employs a mix of natural light and studio strobe techniques to ensure every metallic sheen and fabric weave is rendered with exacting clarity. By stripping away extraneous environment, the creative team centers the narrative on the interplay of color and composition. This project successfully recontextualizes luxury as an accessible, daily experience, proving that true refinement exists in the thoughtful collision of the exceptional and the ordinary.
