Schön Magazine’s Unexpected Red is a fashion editorial series that leans into the monochromatic potential of a single, vibrant hue. Through a collection of beauty and full-body portraits, the project explores the interplay between bold crimson palettes and sharp, minimalist styling. Photographer Kolby Knight captures model Eduarda Bretas in a variety of studio settings, ranging from clean, directional lighting to moody, chiaroscuro environments. Fashion editor Anna Katsanis directs the styling, which emphasizes saturation through color-blocked clothing and textures, often set against stark or matching backgrounds. The visual narrative is further refined by hair styling from Andrew Chen and makeup by Magdalena Major, who utilize macro-level cosmetic detail to anchor the series' aesthetic. The work makes use of editorial techniques such as natural light and motion blur to elevate the portraiture.
