For the Summer 2026 issue of Flash Art, photographer Osma Harvilahti delivers a masterclass in editorial portraiture, bridging the gap between the high-concept world of fine art and the intimate, observational nature of documentary photography. This series profiles artist Michaël Borremans within the quiet, methodical environment of his own studio, capturing a creative process defined by precision and tactile detail. Harvilahti leans into editorial minimalism, utilizing natural light and stark studio strobe setups to emphasize the clean, architectural lines of the artist’s workspace while allowing the vibrant, sculptural elements of Borremans’s work to anchor the visual narrative. The project moves fluidly between rigid, structured compositions and organic reportage, effectively documenting the messy reality of an artist’s workbench alongside the polished, high-contrast imagery expected of a major industry publication.
