The Utopian, an editorial project for Other Scenes Magazine, explores the interplay between human form and structured, modernist architecture. Captured by photographer Alex Huanfa Cheng, the series features a series of portraits and full-length shots that leverage hard light and geometric lines to frame the subject within neoclassical and brutalist environments. Fashion direction by Julie Ragolia defines the project’s aesthetic, which relies on textured layering—ranging from structured leather trench coats to soft satin overshirts—to complement the clean lines of the surrounding landscapes. With set design by Pierre-Alexandre Fillaire, the editorial incorporates a mix of candid outdoor placements and minimalist studio settings, leaning into a grainy, analogue film aesthetic that heightens the introspective mood of models Merel Roggeveen and Mike Vasilakis.
