MISS THE MISSING MISS

Jul 2026
In the striking editorial feature MISS THE MISSING MISS, Office Magazine delivers a subversive exploration of consumerism and urban performance art. Through the lens of photographer and creative director Jumbo Tsui, the project oscillates between the mundanity of souvenir shop culture and the theatricality of surrealist portraiture. The narrative weaves together iconography of the Statue of Liberty with the disorienting reality of city life, using high-contrast flash and direct natural light to ground its absurd protagonists in tangible urban settings. Featuring model Victoria Volt, the editorial leans into a palette of neon hues and stark primary colors, with makeup artist Hugo Villard applying bold, blue-toned masks that render the subject an uncanny, performative monument. With meticulous fashion styling by Lola Chatterton, the project employs live-action technique to bridge the gap between retail catalog aesthetics and fine art documentation. By juxtaposing cheap plastic trinkets and mass-produced luggage against high-fashion, costume-heavy editorials, the series questions the value of the iconic American souvenir. The composition, characterized by its graphic repetition and calculated juxtaposition, captures a feeling of displacement within the Parisian streetscape. Ultimately, the work functions as a conceptual critique of commercial love and modern identity, manifesting as a bizarre, beautifully layered visual diary of an elusive, missing liberty.
