Numero Netherlands
Private Protocol

Mar 2026
Private Protocol, a striking editorial feature for Numero Netherlands, masterfully navigates the intersection of still-life artistry and modern portraiture. Through the lens of photographer Dan-Cristian Gocan, the project constructs a highly stylized, enigmatic narrative that feels both cinematic and rigorously composed. Featuring model Omar Metwally, the work leans into an atmosphere of editorial minimalism, where the starkness of a neutral studio environment is interrupted by surreal, curated objects—a silver serving cloche, a solitary red apple, and delicate glassware. The visual language oscillates between sharp, tailored luxury fashion and vulnerable, raw abstraction, often utilizing low-key chiaroscuro to emphasize the subjects' physical forms and the intricate textures of satin and pinstriped tailoring. Gocan employs a sophisticated mix of studio strobe and natural light to balance clinical, high-contrast silhouettes with soft, contemplative focus. The result is a series of compositions that feel like frozen vignettes, where the tension between the clothed and the shirtless, the still and the posed, challenges traditional fashion photography tropes. By stripping away the extraneous, the project places the focus squarely on the structural harmony of the human face and the deliberate, almost ritualistic placement of props, cementing Private Protocol as a definitive example of contemporary luxury aesthetic that prioritizes narrative depth over commercial superficiality.
