In Foxhound (a Mix of Two Halves), Middle Plane Magazine delivers a masterclass in fashion editorial portraiture that navigates the tension between raw realism and polished luxury. Through the lens of photographer Alasdair McLellan, the project channels an evocative, cinematic atmosphere, shifting seamlessly between high-contrast chiaroscuro black-and-white studies and vibrant, saturated lifestyle shots. The styling by Max Pearmain serves as the project’s backbone, juxtaposing structured, oversized varsity and racing-style leather jackets with intricate floral and graphic prints, creating a visual dialogue between traditional tailoring and eclectic, contemporary aesthetics. The execution relies on a diverse range of techniques, from the soft, even luminosity of studio strobes to the grainy, authentic texture of analogue film. The models, including Jacqui Hooper, inhabit these frames with a relaxed, intimate intensity, while meticulous hair styling by Tom Wright and experimental makeup by Mel Arter—featuring striking, abstract blue accents—add layers of depth to the portraiture. Phoebe Shakespeare’s set design frames these subjects against stark, neutral backgrounds or weathered urban backdrops, allowing the focus to remain firmly on the juxtaposition of textures and the interplay of light. This project exemplifies the power of editorial storytelling, where movement, motion-blur, and precise framing converge to redefine the boundaries of modern fashion imagery.
