This editorial photography project for Many of Them Magazine, lensed by photographer Alex Mader, masterfully navigates the intersection of high-concept fashion and raw, urban reportage. Through a lens of editorial minimalism and cinematic framing, the work captures a series of staged, narrative moments set against the backdrop of functional, industrial environments. The imagery leans into the tension between structured, bold-colored tailoring—highlighted by vibrant trench coats and cloche hats—and the weathered, utilitarian surfaces of parking lots and corrugated metal walls. Under the creative guidance of fashion editor and stylist Hamish Wirgman, the compositions utilize natural light and sharp studio strobe techniques to elevate the texture of garments against stark, moody settings. Featuring model Thea Almqvist, the project moves seamlessly between sharp, portrait-oriented aesthetics and wide, documentary-style shots that find beauty in mundane details, such as rain-streaked asphalt and urban clutter. With precise grooming by hair stylist Sarah Jo Palmer and makeup artist Rebecca Wordingham, alongside set design by Harry Stayt, the imagery channels a somber, realistic mood that feels both staged and candid. By pairing saturated yellow rainwear and architectural silhouettes with the grey, industrial grit of shipping containers and concrete plazas, Mader creates a compelling visual dialogue that treats the urban landscape as a sophisticated studio space, resulting in a cohesive, polished narrative.
