La Passagère d’Alexandrie

Feb 2026
La Passagere d’Alexandrie for M Le magazine du Monde is a masterclass in atmospheric storytelling, blurring the lines between high-fashion editorial and cinematic documentary. Under the creative vision of fashion director Imruh Asha, the project transforms the gritty, weathered textures of urban architecture into a stage for modern elegance. Photographer Vincent van de Wijngaard captures the enigmatic essence of model Imaan Hammam, utilizing a sophisticated interplay of natural light and low-key chiaroscuro to imbue every frame with a sense of quiet, timeless intensity. The visual narrative leans heavily into the stark contrasts of the cityscape, where voluminous sculptural garments and vibrant color palettes collide with industrial concrete and decaying surfaces. Techniques such as 35mm analogue film and high-contrast black and white photography emphasize the tactile quality of the styling, with hair stylist Laurent Philippon ensuring that every detail feels deliberate and poised against the backdrop of the sea and street. Rather than a conventional fashion spread, the series reads as an evocative exploration of motion and stillness, where light—whether it is the golden hour glow or the sharp, dramatic shadows of midday—acts as a primary character. This project succeeds by grounding its editorial minimalism in the raw reality of its environment, resulting in a series that feels both strikingly composed and hauntingly authentic.
