Maurizio Cattelan, Art isn't a detergent. It doesn't clean, it stains. Lampoon Soap issue 32
Date

Oct 2025

Description

For issue 32 of Lampoon Magazine, artist Maurizio Cattelan collaborates with photographer Alberto Zanetti on an editorial feature exploring themes of cleanliness, decay, and artifice. The project leans into conceptual portraiture and still life, utilizing a range of techniques including analogue film, high-speed freeze, and chiaroscuro lighting to construct scenes that challenge conventional domestic imagery. Across the series, Zanetti employs varied lighting setups—from moody, low-key environments to bright, clinical flashes—to capture the interplay between polished textures and gritty, organic debris. The imagery features sculptural interventions and staged compositions, such as a mannequin head integrated into kitchenware and circular arrangements of soiled leather footwear, reinforcing the issue's focus on the tension between order and accumulation.
