Independent Project Creative Direction: Taposhi Rabeya
STORM AS COUTURE

May 2026
In the striking editorial series STORM AS COUTURE, creative director Taposhi Rabeya crafts a visual narrative that bridges the gap between high-fashion surrealism and architectural decay. Set against the weathered stone backdrops of city rooftops and crumbling terraces, the project leans into a cinematic tension that feels both timeless and haunting. By utilizing a high-contrast monochromatic palette, Rabeya elevates the imagery beyond standard fashion portraiture, transforming the model into a sculpture of grace amidst a desolated urban landscape. The intentional use of analogue film photography adds an organic, tactile quality to the work, grounding the juxtaposition of structured black bodices and opulent white opera gloves in a raw, authentic aesthetic. Rabeya masterfully incorporates natural light to emphasize the interplay between the crisp, graphic lines of the garments and the chaotic texture of spiderwebs and scattered pearls, creating an atmosphere of abandoned elegance. This project acts as a masterclass in mood, where the recurring motif of the black umbrella suggests a restless, windswept energy. Through this lens, the industry standard of fashion editorial is reimagined as a piece of performance art, utilizing the chiaroscuro lighting technique to carve out depth and drama. Every frame reads as a deliberate study of contrast, blending the sharpness of modern luxury with the quiet, lingering decay of the built environment to deliver a profoundly evocative narrative experience.
