HERO Magazine
BOYS

Apr 2026
In the BOYS project for HERO Magazine, photographer Sungmin Kim and fashion editor Kevin Lanoy masterfully dissect the evolving silhouette of modern masculinity through a lens of high-fashion editorial. This striking series leans into a cinematic aesthetic that prioritizes texture and form, utilizing the timeless medium of analogue film to ground its avant-garde approach. By juxtaposing heavy-textured tweed and tailored wool jackets against unconventional elements like voluminous layered skirts and garter straps, the work challenges traditional sartorial boundaries within the luxury fashion industry. The portraiture is marked by high-contrast black and white imagery, which amplifies the tactile details of the clothing, from the precise grain of a blazer to the soft, diffused foliage of the surrounding garden environments. Model Baptiste Vivo embodies this exploration of motion and stillness, appearing equally at ease running across European cobblestones as he is posed in deliberate, quiet introspection. The composition, often relying on natural light, fosters a raw intimacy that feels both contemporary and archival. Through a careful synthesis of editorial portraiture and lifestyle storytelling, the project captures a delicate tension between rigid tradition and fluid self-expression, inviting the viewer to reconsider the interplay between historical garment construction and the modern male form. It is a thoughtful study of identity, defined by its stark visual language and uncompromising artistic vision.
