State of Play is a multi-faceted editorial feature produced for GQ Australia, showcasing a series of portraits that blend classic studio aesthetics with candid documentary-style photography. Led by photographer Rob Tennent and producer Charlotte Rose, the project explores contemporary masculinity through a diverse range of settings, spanning from minimalist studio sessions to atmospheric outdoor locations. The collection leans into a warm, grounded visual language, frequently employing analogue film techniques to capture natural textures and subtle light. By alternating between structured studio portraiture—highlighting sharp tailoring and denim—and spontaneous outdoor scenes, the series maintains a consistent visual rhythm that emphasizes form and individual expression. Techniques such as natural light and analogue film capture are prevalent throughout the project, with several frames featuring visible film rebate markings that contribute to the documentary quality of the work.
