Pure Intentions

Apr 2026
In a masterclass of visual restraint and deliberate composition, the Financial Times HTSI magazine feature Pure Intentions channels a sophisticated language of editorial minimalism. Through the lens of photographer Craig McDean, the series dissects the intersection of high-fashion tailoring and graphic architecture. The project utilizes a consistent palette of bifurcated, pastel-hued backgrounds—merging soft pinks and pale blues with warm wood-grain textures—to create a striking stage for contemporary sartorial statements. With styling from Benjamin Canares and Tonne Goodman, the narrative leans into sharp, structured silhouettes, from ornate lace collars to oversized blazers and bold, color-blocked gowns, all rendered with crisp, clinical precision. The deliberate use of studio strobe lighting ensures every tactile detail, whether it be intricate beadwork, reflective sequins, or the nuanced grain of a textile, is captured with heightened clarity. Casting director Piergiorgio Del Moro facilitates a focused, neutral aesthetic that allows model Julia Nobis to ground the more avant-garde elements of the wardrobe. Supported by the precise artistry of hair stylist Akki Shirakawa and makeup artist Diane Kendal, the editorial achieves a balance between polished modernism and raw individual expression. Stefan Beckman’s set design functions as a quiet protagonist, using geometric splits and centered framing to maintain a disciplined, high-fashion editorial rhythm throughout, solidifying the work as a definitive example of contemporary portraiture.
