Exit Magazine
Fringe Benefit

May 2026
Fringe Benefit for Exit Magazine is a masterclass in modern fashion editorial, blending architectural silhouettes with a dynamic, tactile focus on movement. Photographer Maona Micoud collaborates with fashion director Sam Ranger to explore the interplay between high-fashion garments and diverse environments, ranging from stark studio setups to urban landscapes. The series leans into a bold, high-key aesthetic that elevates the interplay of texture, utilizing long, cascading fringe as a recurring motif that adds visual weight and rhythm to each portrait. Whether set against the vivid, saturated orange backdrops of a studio strobe session or within the diffused, soft atmosphere of natural light photography, the imagery maintains a sharp, graphic sensibility. Models such as Aluel Keror bring a commanding presence to the frame, embodying the avant-garde spirit of the collections. The work is meticulously polished by makeup artists Karla Quiñonez Leon and Pamela Cochrane, who highlight the models' features with a precision that balances the complex, decorative nature of the textiles. By juxtaposing the structured elegance of fringe-adorned pieces with industrial or floral settings, the project successfully bridges the gap between traditional portraiture and experimental lifestyle imagery. The resulting body of work serves as a sophisticated testament to the power of texture and color in contemporary luxury fashion, creating a visual language that feels both timeless and aggressively current.
