For The Vampire Lestat, Entertainment Weekly commissioned a striking suite of editorial portraits that lean heavily into a dark, romantic, and hyper-cinematic aesthetic. Under the creative influence of fashion editor and stylist Dolly Pratt, the project utilizes a high-contrast visual language to transform its subjects into theatrical figures. By employing bold, low-key chiaroscuro lighting, the series carves out sharp, moody silhouettes against saturated gradients of red, blue, and orange. The photography is marked by a sophisticated mix of technical flair and raw intensity, often integrating experimental live-action techniques like multiple and double exposure to create ghostly, layered motion effects that feel both surreal and deeply emotive. The execution emphasizes textures—from the sheen of metallic fabrics and the grit of distressed leather to the deliberate styling of elaborate pussy-bow neckties and structured blazers. This deliberate interplay of shadow and light, combined with the polished, rhythmic energy of the group compositions, ensures that every frame feels like a deliberate piece of performance art.
