Revisiting King’s first (prom) queen

Sep 2026
For this feature in Entertainment Weekly titled Revisiting King’s first prom queen, the editorial series explores a cinematic narrative rooted in classic suspense. The portraiture leans into a moody, atmospheric aesthetic, employing low-key and chiaroscuro lighting techniques to sculpt the subjects against dark, enclosed domestic spaces. Each frame focuses on high-contrast compositions, utilising vintage vanity mirrors, rich colour grading in crimson and green, and evocative motion to capture a sense of psychological tension. The visual language bridges the gap between intimate character study and theatrical storytelling, with the inclusion of film grain and analogue-inspired textures reinforcing a nostalgic, dramatic tone. Manicuring for the feature was provided by Stephanie Stone.
