Gowned in Gaze is a fashion editorial series for Dust Magazine China that channels the narrative tension of Cindy Sherman’s Untitled Film Stills. Through a sequence of evocative tableaus, the project explores character-driven portraiture, blending avant-garde styling with the stark textures of mid-century cinematic aesthetics. Creative direction by Dou Qianlin unites the project's conceptual thread, while photographer Louie Banks captures the series with an analogue film approach that emphasizes grain, deep shadows, and raw environmental detail. The editorial features model Betsy Gaghan, whose diverse character studies are defined by Eline Hoyois’ eclectic styling—ranging from sculptural corsetry and structured tailoring to theatrical headpieces. The production is further shaped by the work of set designer Vuk Levković, alongside detailed hair styling by Quentin Lafforgue and makeup by Marie Dufresne. Utilizing moody chiaroscuro lighting and crisp monochrome compositions, the imagery evokes a sense of nostalgic, cinematic storytelling across both urban streetscapes and dimly lit interiors.
