In a masterclass of monochromatic restraint, the photography duo Luigi & Iango return to the essence of luxury fashion with this expansive portrait series featuring Mona Tougaard. Moving away from the high-octane artifice often associated with the industry, the project leans into a raw, cinematic intimacy that feels both timeless and urgent. Through a series of high-contrast, black and white studies, the photographers strip back the artifice to focus on the interplay between light and form, utilizing studio strobe lighting to carve out sharp silhouettes and define tactile textures. Tougaard serves as the anchor for these explorations, her direct gaze and relaxed physicality providing a grounding counterpoint to the more stylized elements, such as the layers of sheer, veil-like fabric and distressed paper backgrounds. With styling by Elanur Erdoğan and meticulous makeup work by Georgi Sandev, the aesthetic remains grounded in editorial minimalism, shifting fluidly from classic portraiture to moody, low-key chiaroscuro compositions. By blending the organic depth of analogue film techniques with the crispness of modern studio work, the collaboration creates a narrative of quiet confidence.
