Description

The project Betsy, brought to life by the acclaimed photographic duo Luigi & Iango, stands as a masterclass in contemporary fashion editorial work. Centered around model Betsy Gaghan, the series channels a timeless, high-fashion aesthetic that leans heavily into the power of reductionist composition. By utilizing studio strobe lighting and authentic 35mm film techniques, the team creates a suite of imagery that is both gritty and profoundly polished. The work, guided by the sharp eye of fashion director Ras Bartram, explores the intersection of soft, organic textures—like the model's signature wavy hair and bangs—and the rigid, architectural forms of high-end tailoring from houses such as Prada, Givenchy, and Bottega Veneta. The visual language is strictly monochromatic, employing low-key chiaroscuro lighting to carve out the subject's features against minimalist, neutral grey backgrounds. The result is a series that feels cinematic yet restrained, with makeup artistry by Tayler Treadwell ensuring every shot maintains a clean, editorial finish. The project manages to strip away the noise of traditional commercial photography, focusing instead on the direct gaze of the subject and the tactile nature of luxury textiles. With casting by Maxime Valentini, Betsy proves that when the craft is centered on form, structure, and intent, the resulting narrative is as compelling as it is elegant, cementing a definitive visual statement for the industry.
