'BARE STUDY'

Aug 2026
In the BARE STUDY editorial project, photographer Alena Sazonova and makeup artist Suna Myles collaborate to redefine the boundaries of modern cosmetics through a lens of stark, sophisticated minimalism. This beauty campaign eschews conventional artifice, instead leaning into the raw textures of human skin and the precise, graphic application of pigment to create a series of compelling macro portraits. Across the collection, Sazonova utilizes refined beauty light to emphasize the structural contours of the subjects, while Suna Myles demonstrates an experimental approach to grooming and color. From the innovative use of metallic gold and copper pigments swept across the forehead to the striking contrast of two-toned matte and shimmer lip applications, each frame functions as a precise study in form and balance. By integrating elements like white-frosted lashes and slicked-back, wet-look hair, the work channels an aesthetic of editorial minimalism that feels both timeless and avant-garde. The interplay between the neutral, off-white studio backdrops and the bold, high-contrast makeup choices highlights the technical skill required for such intimate compositions. Ultimately, BARE STUDY stands as a testament to the power of clean, commercial beauty photography, offering a nuanced exploration of color, texture, and facial anatomy that resonates with both professional precision and artistic curiosity.
