Common Language presents an expansive fashion editorial series captured by photographer Laura Marie Cieplik. The project traverses a range of moods and environments, oscillating between high-contrast monochrome studio portraiture and ethereal, natural-light outdoor photography. Throughout the series, the imagery leans into a tactile, surreal aesthetic, utilizing varied textures—from delicate lace and sheer knitwear to dried botanicals and pearls—to construct its visual narrative. Collaborating closely with fashion editor and stylist Hollie Williamson, the work emphasizes sculptural silhouettes and intricate styling. Hair stylist Olivier Noraz and makeup artist Lisa Michalik contribute to the series' polished yet gritty depth, employing techniques such as hard light to carve facial features and directional soft light to highlight fabric details. The collection includes editorial compositions that range from candid, playful moments to moody, low-key scenes, often utilizing analogue-inspired grain to heighten the intimacy of the portraiture.
