COAT Magazine’s Chess Club series is a fashion editorial project that explores structured leisure through a cinematic, narrative lens. The imagery leans into a blend of monochrome and warm-toned aesthetics, utilizing high-contrast lighting and chiaroscuro techniques to heighten the interplay between the subjects and the game of chess. Creative direction and photography by Adrian Price anchor the project, focusing on tactile textures—from heavy wool coats and houndstooth tailoring to layered knitwear. With production by Kylie Farrington and support from Saunders & Co, the project creates a subdued, gritty atmosphere that emphasises both individual contemplation and group dynamics. Hair styling by Michael Brennan and make-up by Kristyan Low contribute to the precise, classic studio feel captured throughout the series.
