Independent Project Creative Direction: Taposhi Rabeya
The house of Ashworth

May 2026
The House of Ashworth, an evocative independent project led by creative director Taposhi Rabeya, serves as a masterclass in atmospheric visual storytelling. By leaning into a rich, historical aesthetic, the project breathes new life into the traditional editorial format, curating a series of images that feel like stills stolen from a period drama. Rabeya deftly orchestrates a cinematic narrative where the boundaries between past and present blur, frequently utilizing natural light to highlight the intricate textures of period-style gowns, ornate wood paneling, and antique interiors. The creative direction shines through in the thoughtful juxtaposition of historical attire—such as housemaid uniforms and formal tailcoats—with modern silhouettes and unexpected elements like vintage bicycles, creating a striking visual tension. Techniques such as 35mm film and analogue film capture are employed to ground the work in an authentic, grainy warmth that feels deeply nostalgic yet urgent. Each composition utilizes a low-key, chiaroscuro approach to emphasize the depth of the grand, old-world spaces, inviting the viewer into a quiet, contemplative scene. Whether capturing an intimate moment of painting on a canopy bed or a rustic dining hall ritual, Rabeya proves that a disciplined eye for composition can transform lifestyle photography into a timeless study of character and environment, solidifying a narrative that feels both staged and hauntingly candid.
