FANCLUBS

Mar 2026
In the latest feature for CITY Magazine International, titled FANCLUBS, photographer Germain Chauveau masterfully bridges the gap between terrace culture and high-fashion sensibility. Through a rigorous series of black-and-white portraits, the project interrogates the aesthetic intersection of athletic apparel and luxury styling. By layering classic football jerseys from clubs like FC Bayern Munich and Arsenal with meticulously curated accessories—including intricate gold medallions, pearl necklaces, and high-end mechanical timepieces—the imagery challenges traditional style norms. Models Antoine Waldner, Makur Mabor, and Sanjeev Ranwa embody this juxtaposition, their poses ranging from thoughtful and stylized to candidly deliberate. The editorial photography leans into a minimalist studio aesthetic, utilizing both natural light and crisp studio strobe lighting to create a high-contrast visual language that emphasizes texture and form. The intentional use of monochrome, alongside techniques such as low-key lighting and chiaroscuro, strips away the noise of team colorways to focus purely on the silhouette and the individual subject. By framing sportswear as a foundational element of a refined, contemporary wardrobe, FANCLUBS provides a fresh perspective on identity within sports culture. Each shot serves as a study in balance, where the raw energy of the pitch meets the refined polish of the fashion world, resulting in a cohesive, thought-provoking editorial that feels both timeless and distinctly modern in its execution.
