Chet Lo
Futile
Jun 2025
In the latest campaign for luxury fashion house Chet Lo, titled Futile, the brand explores the intersection of domestic mundanity and high-concept garment design. Under the sharp art direction of Nicole Yingming Chen, the project moves away from traditional runway spectacle, opting instead for a deliberate, rhythmic study of texture and material. Through a series of live-action technique sequences, the film captures the tactile quality of the collection’s signature bubbly knits and sheer gowns against a stark, industrial backdrop. By placing the subject in quiet, almost surreal scenarios—leveling a table with newspaper or methodically sweeping confetti across a concrete floor—the film leans into editorial minimalism to highlight the intricacy of the pieces. The visual language relies heavily on natural light and cinematic composition, allowing the interplay between the organic textures of the clothing and the rigid, sparse environment to command the viewer's attention. This analogue film aesthetic lends a timeless, grounded quality to the imagery, transforming everyday tasks into an artistic performance. By focusing on the interplay of color-blocked skirts, strapless silhouettes, and the subtle friction of daily life, the campaign achieves a polished, artistic tone that feels both intimate and expansive, proving that the most compelling fashion storytelling often resides in the quiet, focused details of the movement rather than the noise of the main stage.
