Cero Magazine captures the raw athleticism and refined discipline of the performing arts in this editorial feature, Meet City Ballet’s Next Generation. By placing these dancers within both sterile, high-key studio environments and textured, urban rooftop settings, the imagery successfully bridges the gap between high-fashion menswear and classical movement. Photographer Emerald Layne utilizes high-speed freeze techniques and studio strobe lighting to immortalize the kinetic energy of the dancers, transforming their leaps and gravity-defying poses into sculptures of shadow and form. Under the fashion direction of Jungle Lin, the subjects are draped in sharp, tailored overcoats and double-breasted suits, creating a monochromatic palette that emphasizes the fluidity of their silhouettes against minimalist backdrops. Kenta Koda rounds out the visual narrative with deliberate, sleek grooming that anchors the editorial minimalism, ensuring the focus remains squarely on the intersection of sartorial structure and human grace. Through this collaboration, the project reads as a sophisticated exploration of identity, capturing the poised confidence of young artists who carry the gravity of the stage into the modern city. The resulting portraits, guided by the editorial vision of Jonathan Shia, serve as a testament to the power of deliberate, cinematic lighting to elevate portraiture into a rhythmic and compelling visual story.
