Bolero Magazine
Portrait of a Muse

Feb 2026
Bolero Magazine captures a masterclass in mood and materiality with its latest editorial campaign, Portrait of a Muse. By leaning into the stark elegance of luxury fashion houses, the project offers a series of evocative portraits that challenge traditional editorial norms through a raw, cinematic lens. The creative vision, helmed by photographer duo Arran & Jules and fashion editor Judit Melis, traverses a spectrum of textures—from the sculptural drapes of high-fashion garments to the gritty, reflective surface of water. Every frame feels deliberate, utilizing a mix of 35mm film and low-key chiaroscuro lighting to isolate the subjects in a state of quiet intensity. Model Mawena Takpa anchors the series, her presence amplified by the precise, evocative hair styling of Quentin Guyen and the understated artistry of makeup artist Carole Colombani. The interplay between high-gloss aesthetic choices and lo-fi, documentary-style timestamps creates a tension that is both timeless and strikingly modern. With cinematic framing and an emphasis on clean lines, the project transcends simple apparel showcase, instead creating a narrative rhythm where shadow and light dictate the pace. This is editorial minimalism at its most potent, proving that when the craft is centered on structural integrity and authentic, film-grain texture, the resulting imagery commands an undeniable, enigmatic authority that lingers long after the initial glance.
