Mugler

Mar 2026
In a masterclass of luxury fashion editorial, AnOther Magazine presents a definitive study on the architectural rigor of Mugler, bridging the house’s archival intensity with a contemporary, high-fashion sensibility. This series of studio portraits channels a clean, avant-garde aesthetic, masterfully capturing the structural geometry of the garments. The project relies on precise studio strobe lighting to delineate sharp, exaggerated shoulders and cinched silhouettes, while also exploring the soft, organic fluidity of feather-adorned pieces. The creative execution balances minimalist, moody backgrounds—often shifting between deep, cinematic blue gradients and muted, neutral tones—against the tactile complexity of high-shine vinyl, faceted jewels, and metallic sequin embellishments. With vision led by editor-in-chief Susannah Frankel and fashion editor Robbie Spencer, the imagery achieves a perfect equilibrium between the theatrical and the composed. The photography highlights the interplay of light and shadow, leaning into low-key, chiaroscuro techniques to emphasize both the garment’s craftsmanship and the model’s poised, unwavering gaze. The styling, elevated by the art direction of SJ Todd, ensures the Mugler aesthetic remains at the forefront, seamlessly integrating slicked-back hair and bold, vibrant red lips to anchor the elaborate costumes. From the sculptural feather halos to the precision-cut tailoring, the project stands as a testament to the power of editorial portraiture, meticulously showcasing the evolving, avant-garde legacy of the iconic fashion house through a sophisticated, modern lens.
