The Modern Face for 72 Magazine is a focused editorial beauty project that explores sculptural aesthetics and precise cosmetic application. Through a series of macro portraits, the work emphasizes tactile skin textures and high-contrast color palettes, moving between bold, avant-garde pigment strokes and polished, dewy finishes. Photographed by Phil Engelhardt, the series utilizes clean studio lighting to isolate facial structure, effectively shifting the focus to intricate details like metallic pigments, graphic eyeliner, and varied lip finishes. Featuring models including Aluel Makuach, the editorial maintains a consistent minimalist visual language across every frame. The project benefits from the combined expertise of stylists and makeup artists, including Eniola Dare on fashion styling and a roster of makeup artists such as Ammy Drammeh, Fara Homidi, Isamaya Ffrench, Lucy Bridge, Lynsey Alexander, and Mata Marielle. With hair styling contributions from Claire Grech, Daniel Martin, and Pål Berdahl, the work prioritizes a clean, macro approach that highlights the interplay between natural skin and professional artistry.
