Shapeshifters

Mar 2026
Shapeshifters, the latest fashion story for 72 Magazine, serves as a masterclass in editorial minimalism and the power of negative space. Under the guidance of Editor-in-Chief Edward Enninful, the project leans into a stark, conceptual aesthetic that prioritizes the interplay of silhouette and fabric over traditional narrative elements. Photographer James Ari King employs a rigorous studio strobe and high-key lighting approach, transforming each frame into a study of light and texture against a seamless white backdrop. Fashion Editor and Stylist Rebecca Purshouse orchestrates a complex dialogue between materials, juxtaposing sharp, metallic quilted outerwear and crocodile-embossed leather against fluid, draped gowns and technical parkas. The imagery is elevated by the precision work of hair stylist Michał Bielecki and makeup artist Helene Vasnier, whose clean, graphic touches ensure the focus remains on the structural integrity of the garments. Featuring models Vasko Luyckx and Zhao Ziqi, the project captures a series of dynamic, often sculptural poses that feel both contemporary and timeless. By utilizing high-key photography to flatten certain details while exaggerating the sheen of textiles, the team achieves a visual rhythm that feels deliberate and polished. The resulting editorial is a sophisticated exploration of form, where the tension between light and shadow defines the very nature of modern luxury fashion.
