Vivek Vadoliya
Bio
Vivek Vadoliya is a British Indian photographer and director whose work radiates warmth, generosity, and an intimate personal touch. Straddling the realms of documentary, fashion, and portraiture, Vivek's projects delve into deeply resonant themes such as British Asian identity, societal masculinity, and evolving beauty ideals. Through his lens, he has cultivated a unique aesthetic that celebrates the stories of individuals and communities often overlooked by mainstream narratives. Raised in the culturally rich yet often dichotomous environment of the British suburbs, Vivek utilizes his photography and films to challenge conventional representations of beauty and culture perpetuated by brands. He views this as an ongoing dialogue about identity and representation. His early portrait series, *Brotherhood*, alongside the more recent *Sisterhood*, allowed him to explore the transformative power of image-making in fostering a sense of visibility and belonging within the community. Both projects honor the diverse expressions of masculinity and femininity intrinsic to British South Asian culture. In April 2022, Vivek unveiled his debut book, *Mallakhamb*, published by Antihero Press. This project was captured in the vibrant streets of Mumbai, where young practitioners of the ancient martial art form—an extraordinary blend of yoga, aerial acrobatics, and wrestling—perform with a grace that defies belief. The athletes’ fluid movements on poles and ropes showcase not just their physical prowess but also the cultural heritage that Vivek aims to preserve and celebrate. "I strive to honor the stories of ordinary individuals," Vivek reflects. "I’m particularly drawn to those who may be marginalized—not solely defined by race or color, but by a multitude of experiences. I’m fascinated by the lives of people you might pass on the street, whose stories deserve to be told." **EXHIBITIONS** - Palm Photo Prize, 10 14 Gallery, London, 2021 - Belfast Photo Festival, 2021 - Portrait of Humanity Prize, 2020 - Portrait of Britain Prize, 2020 - Palm Photo Prize, Print Space, London, 2019 - Kasaragod Boys, Barbican Centre, London, 2019 - *Brotherhood*, Richmix, London, 2018 - *If I Survive I Will Tell You Everything*, Now Gallery, London, 2018 - *If I Survive I Will Tell You Everything*, Roundhouse, London, 2018 - IPF Photo Prize, House of Vans, London, 2017 **CLIENT LIST** Adidas, Apple, Atmos, BBC, Denzil Patrick, *The FACE*, Financial Times, GAP, *i-D*, Nike, Saloni, Tommy Hilfiger, TOAST, British Vogue, Vogue India, and WeTransfer.
