Bio
Tatsuro Kiuchi, born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1966, is a distinguished illustrator whose journey from the sciences to the arts has profoundly shaped his creative vision. After earning a degree in biology from International Christian University in Tokyo, Tatsuro pursued his passion for art, graduating with distinction from the prestigious ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California. With a rich career that began in children's book illustration, Tatsuro has collaborated with numerous publishers in both the United States and Japan, capturing the imaginations of young readers. His artistic repertoire has since expanded to encompass editorial illustrations for magazines, captivating book jackets, and high-profile advertising commissions, each reflecting his unique perspective. Tatsuro's work is characterized by its ability to evoke atmosphere and convey complex ideas through visually striking imagery. His debut picture book, *The Lotus Seed* (text by Sherry Garland / Houghton Mifflin Harcourt), has resonated with audiences worldwide, selling over 200,000 copies. Notably, he was commissioned by Royal Mail to design their Christmas Stamp Collection in 2006, as well as by Starbucks for their global holiday campaign, *Pass the Cheer*. His creativity also extends to the comic realm, where he contributed a popular serial strip titled *The Earthlings* to a quarterly magazine. As the owner of Pen Still Writes studio, Tatsuro continues to inspire the next generation of artists as a dedicated illustration instructor at Aoyama Juku. His membership in the Tokyo Illustrators Society further demonstrates his commitment to the artistic community.
