Laurie Bartley, born in 1977 in Basildon, Essex, England, is a distinguished fashion photographer whose work seamlessly fuses the worlds of photography and cinema. Growing up surrounded by family photo albums and inspired by his father’s passion for amateur photography, Bartley developed an early affinity for capturing moments through the lens. After honing his skills in Norfolk, he moved to London to work as an Assistant Photographer, where his fascination with cinema began to profoundly influence his artistic vision. Bartley’s innovative approach to fashion photography is characterized by cinematic techniques, including narrative storytelling, character development, and meticulous set design. His images evoke the essence of film stills, where models transform into actresses, and poses come alive with purpose. Bartley first garnered attention for his striking contributions to avant-garde fashion publications such as Dazed & Confused and The Face. His work has since graced the pages of prestigious magazines, including British Vogue, Vogue Japan, Vogue China, US Vogue, Elle US, Elle Paris, Elle UK, Departures, Numero, and Dazed & Confused. Notable advertising campaigns featuring his photography include collaborations with iconic brands like Max Factor, Dior, Equinox, Tod’s, Jean Paul Gaultier, Diesel, Bulgari, and Anna Sui. His artistic reach extends beyond print; Bartley’s work has been showcased at the V&A Museum in London and featured in a Fashion Photography retrospective at the International Centre of Photography in New York. In addition to his photography, he has ventured into filmmaking, directing a series of short films titled "Near Yonder," which premiered on Nowness, as well as a documentary short for Vogue China about the influential artist and architect, Gaetano Pesce.
