Hannah Whitaker, born in 1980 in Washington, D.C., is a dynamic visual artist based in Brooklyn, New York. With an impressive academic background, she earned her undergraduate degree from Yale University and went on to receive a Master of Fine Arts in Advanced Photographic Studies from Bard College, New York. Whitaker's work masterfully intertwines the human experience with the material world, employing a straight photography approach that underscores her profound understanding of light and image construction. Through the innovative use of multiple exposures, whether on film or digital platforms, her photography explores intricate patterns, geometric forms, and striking silhouettes. Her distinctive vision has garnered recognition on both sides of the Atlantic, with exhibitions in prestigious venues across the United States and Paris. Notably, she was nominated for the Prix Découvertes at the renowned Les Rencontres d'Arles in 2012 and was honored as a Foam Talent in 2014. Whitaker is represented by Galerie Christophe Gaillard, where she held a solo exhibition and showcased her work at Paris Photo in 2021.
