Bio

Emma Picq is a Paris-based artist whose multifaceted practice intertwines visual storytelling, performance, and philosophical inquiry. After completing her studies in cinema and photography at the esteemed Louis Lumière University, Emma chose to deepen her exploration of the human experience by pursuing a degree in philosophy in the vibrant artistic landscape of Paris. Simultaneously, she honed her craft in dramatic arts, studying at the Périmony School, participating in workshops led by Blanche Salant, and engaging in a masterclass with the renowned Jack Waltzer. This journey fueled her ongoing investigation into staging and her passionate quest to understand the nuances of human nature through performance. Her artistic evolution was profoundly influenced by her time working alongside celebrated photographer Patrick Cariou, who introduced her to the world of portraiture and the intricate beauty of analog medium-format photography. This experience instilled in her a deep respect for the photographic medium and an unwavering commitment to capturing authenticity in her portrayal of beauty. In January 2021, driven by an insatiable desire for creativity and connection, Emma founded Borderlines Paper, an artistic publication for which she serves as the creative director. Her portfolio is a testament to her talent, featuring striking portraits of a diverse array of artists, including Phoenix, Zaho de Sagazan, Soko, Kris, Christine and the Queens, and the Arctic Monkeys. Notable highlights of her work include the cover and booklet for Jacques Higelin's album "Coup de Foudre" and a collaborative portfolio of painted images with the creative studio Elements for Alain Bashung’s box set "A perte de vue." Through her lens, Emma Picq offers a poignant and personal vision that resonates with authenticity and a spirit of experimentation, continually inviting her audience to explore the complexities of the human condition.
